Yunomi - Ash Glaze - Reduction Fired - B25/31
Handmade wheel-thrown yunomi in white stoneware with a dark green wood ash glaze in which I use ash I collected last winter from our wood burner at home to create the melt and colour.
These are one-off pieces, thrown off the hump. The reduction atmosphere of the charcoal saggar inside the kiln creates the colour from iron in the glaze.
This style of Japanese tea cup is equally great for both pour-over coffee methods and espresso with steamed milk.
Fired to cone 8 in a charcoal reduction firing saggar, then fired again to cone 6 in oxidation.
My maker's mark is brushed on the base in black underglaze after the foot ring has been turned by hand.
